
Rita S. Stone, 97, passed away October 21, 2014 in Noblesville. Born in Philadelphia, PA to Frank and Theresa Santarcangelo on February 8, 1917, Rita Theresa shared a loving 70 years with (late) husband Albert Joseph Stone, Sr. She was pre-deceased by her loving sister Pauline Knott. In addition to raising 6 children, Rita was an active community participant for over 60 years in Indiana and Ridgefield, CT. Her contributions included careers as a secretary and real estate agent. She was a Cub Scout den mother, hospital Grey Lady, member of The League of Women Voters, and Irvington Methodist Church. She was a founding member and Deacon at Faith United Presbyterian Church in Castleton. Serving as the first female member of the Fishers School Board in the 1950s, she participated in the creation of Fishers Elementary School and organized the first kindergarten in Hamilton County, offering classes in her home for several years. She was active in local politics, garden clubs, and community theater groups, and enjoyed music, painting, sewing, knitting, poetry and reading.
Mrs. Stone is survived by daughters Rita Ellen Creane, Carol King and Nancy Thomsen and sons Albert, Anthony and Edward Stone; daughters-in-law Terttu and Leslie Stone, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She will be remembered by her family as a very caring and supportive wife, mother, role model and friend.
